I thought I should share with you how a normal work day is for me....
7am: alarm rings. Hit snoose ("slumre") button once or twice before I get out of bed.
Watch the weather and news on the morning program Sunrise while eating my breakfast on the couch
7.45am: drive the 4 km to work, usually there is not much trafic
8am: check on the hospitalised patients. make sure I have written up all my patient cards from the day before (we still have a card system)
Continue with consultations and premedication of the dogs and cats that are having surgery that day.
Surgeries are usually done in the morning by the vet who is not consulting.
We usually divide the surgeries out evenly, so we do some surgery most days.
In between the consults I might look things up in the books in the office.
10am: tea break. I usually don't have tea at that time, but biscuits are nice :)
More consults (15-30 min long) before lunch.
1pm: lunch. I usually bring food with me, but once a week I go down to the shopping centre to have cafè food. Since home is soo close I might even pop home for lunch.
More cosults in the afternoon. Sometimes we have drop-ins (people with no booked consultations), and some animals may be in need of more intensive treatment and may have to stay overnight.
5pm: Hometime! If it's busy I may have to stay a bit later, but since I get payed by the hour it is not too bad.
My boss does most of the on call time, but I will have my first weekend on call next weekend!
Crossing my fingers for healthy animals!
