St. Davids park

I brought my camera with me to town today, and spent some time taking pictures in the park just behind Salamanka. The park entrance is guarded by two stone lions (carved in 1884) who garded the entrance of the Bank of Van Diemen's land in Hobart. St Davids park used to be the first cemetary in Hobart (opened in 1804), approximately 900 people were buried there among them the founder of the city.
The cemetery became abandoned and the city decided to make it into a beutiful park. Some of the bodies were reburied at a new cemetary, the rest are still resting under the park.
The old gravemonuments were placed in a separate area of the park.
